FAQ

Thread lift questions we hear most

How long does a thread lift last?

Most people enjoy the lift for about 1 to 2 years. The threads dissolve over several months, and the collagen your body builds around them helps hold the result after they are gone. Age, skin quality and lifestyle all play a part.

Does a thread lift hurt?

Each entry point is numbed first, so most people feel pressure and a pulling feeling rather than pain. Expect your face to feel tight and a little sore for a few days after.

What is the recovery time after a thread lift?

You go home the same day. Swelling and any bruising usually peak in the first 2 to 3 days and settle within about 1 to 2 weeks. Most people are back at work within a few days.

How much does a thread lift cost in Richmond Hill?

At Donya Medical Spa, a face thread lift with 6 threads is $1,380 and a full face with 8 threads is $2,000. Extra threads are $149 each. Your consultation tells you how many threads you need before you pay anything.

How many threads will I need?

It depends on how much lift you need and where. A jowl and jawline lift often starts at 6 threads, and a full face usually needs 8 or more. We count them out with you during face mapping.

When will I see thread lift results?

You see a lift as soon as the threads are placed. It looks most natural once swelling settles, usually after 1 to 2 weeks, and skin can keep improving over the next few months as new collagen forms.

Is a thread lift safe?

When an experienced injector does it in a clean clinical setting, serious problems are rare. Swelling, bruising and tenderness are common and short-lived. Threads are medical devices regulated by Health Canada, so always ask which thread will be used. We are happy to show you at your consultation.

Thread lift or filler: which is better for jowls?

They do different jobs. Threads lift skin that has dropped, and filler replaces volume that has been lost. If your jowls come from sagging, threads usually help more. Many faces need a little of both, and we will tell you honestly which one to do first.

Who should not get a thread lift?

We hold off if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active skin infection, a bleeding disorder or a history of keloid scars. Very loose, heavy skin often needs a surgical facelift, and we will tell you if that is the case.

Can I go back to work the next day?

Many people do, with some swelling. If you have a wedding, photos or a big event, book your thread lift at least 2 weeks before so the swelling has time to settle.

How it works

How does a thread lift work?

A thread lift places fine, dissolvable threads under the skin. Tiny barbs or cones on each thread grip the tissue that has dropped, so it can be lifted and held higher. As the threads slowly dissolve, your body builds collagen around them.

Is it for you

Is a thread lift right for you?

Threads lift. They do not add volume or smooth lines, so here is how we decide.

A good fit if

  • Your jowls are starting to drop and blur the jawline
  • The area under your chin and neck has softened
  • You have mild to moderate sagging, not heavy loose skin
  • You want a lift without surgery or weeks of downtime
  • You want it to still look like you, only lifted

Something else may suit you better

  • Hollow cheeks or lost volume: dermal filler
  • Slowly rebuilding collagen across the face: Sculptra
  • Frown lines and crow's feet: Botox
  • Thin, crepey or dull skin: Profhilo
  • Heavy, very loose skin: a surgical facelift, and we will tell you so

We wait if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active skin infection or acne in the area, a bleeding disorder, or a history of keloid scars. If you take blood thinners, tell us at booking.

Recovery

Thread lift recovery, day by day

What most people feel after a thread lift. Follow the aftercare your injector gives you.

  1. Day 0

    Home the same day

Your face feels tight and a little sore. Some swelling is normal.

  2. Days 1 to 3

    Swelling peaks

Sleep on your back with your head raised. Any bruising shows now.

  3. Week 1

    Most swelling settles

Avoid wide yawns, gum and facial massage so the threads can settle.

  4. Weeks 2 to 4

    The lift looks natural

Ease back into hard workouts and dental work once your injector says go.

  5. Month 3

    Collagen keeps building

As the threads dissolve, new collagen helps the skin feel firmer.
