Your questions, answered on camera by a senior laser educator
Six questions we hear every week. Each answer is under 30 seconds. Pick one and turn the sound on.
Which laser device is best?
The one that treats your skin safely and actually works. For us, that is Clarity II.
The best device is the one that's going to treat you safely and effectively. You don't want to spend money on something that does not work.
Why it matters: Clarity II is a Korean-built laser with two wavelengths in one machine, so we never have to force one setting onto every skin tone.
Does laser hurt?
You will feel heat and a quick snap, like an elastic band. It is minor and it is over fast.
These treatments are very, very quick. So where there is discomfort, it is minor. But with cryogen cooling and correct technician use, most patients get through without any real major discomfort.
Good to know: sensitive areas like the upper lip and bikini line feel sharper. Tell us and we adjust.
Does laser work better on lighter skin?
Lighter skin allows stronger settings, but darker skin can get great results too. The laser and the technician make the difference.
We can be more aggressive on lighter skin tones like myself, but we can still get phenomenal outcomes on darker Fitzpatrick skin typing. It comes down to the ability of the laser and the know-how of your technician.
How we handle it: we check your skin type at every visit and pick the wavelength to match. See the skin tone guide.
How many sessions are enough?
It depends on your skin tone first, then the area. Hormonal areas and darker skin usually take longer.
Hormonal areas will typically take longer, as will darker skin types, because we need to ensure both patient safety before we consider patient efficacy. And the lighter skin tones typically see treatment results faster.
The usual range: 6 to 8 sessions. See how sessions are spaced.
Which season is best to start?
Fall and winter. Less sun means safer, stronger settings. Summer is still possible with adjusted settings.
Most times people are avoiding laser exposure in the summer, but we can adjust Clarity to treat all skin types safely in the summer. But as we say in the industry, laser season is fall and winter.
Plan ahead: start in fall and most of your sessions happen before shorts weather.
What is the best age to start?
There is no perfect age. Timing matters more: pregnancy plans, the time of year, and whether your hair is turning grey.
Some things to take into consideration are the time of year, whether you're planning on going through a major hormonal change, usually pregnancy, or if your hair is starting to lose its color. If you're going gray, you won't have a target to hit.
Takeaway: if your hair is starting to grey, sooner is better. The laser needs pigment to work.

How laser hair removal works
Laser targets the pigment in your hair, not the hair itself. Three things happen in a fraction of a second.
Laser hair removal for every skin tone
Clarity II switches between two wavelengths. Tap your skin tone to see which one we would use.
Pick your skin tone
Doctors call this the Fitzpatrick scale, from I (very fair) to VI (deep brown).
Strong, fast settings
Hair pigment soaks up this wavelength well. On fair to light olive skin we can treat with stronger settings, and results usually show sooner.
Now check your hair colour
The laser needs dark pigment in the hair to aim at. Colour matters as much as skin.
If you're going gray, you won't have a target to hit.
How many laser sessions you will need
Most people need a series, not a single visit. Here is what decides your number.
The average number recommended for Clarity II treatments. Hormonal areas may need a few more.
Save on your full series when you book a 6-session package.
Stop waxing, plucking or electrolysis at least this long before your first session.
What a series looks like
Each session catches a new wave of growing hair. Illustration only: everyone responds a little differently.
Best season to start
Fall and winter. Less sun exposure lets us use the settings that work best. Summer treatments are still possible with adjusted settings.
Best age to start
There is no set age. Plan around pregnancy, the time of year, and greying hair, which the laser can no longer target.
Treatment areas for women and men, head to toe
Pick a single area or go full body. Tap an area to see it on the figure.
Prices for every area are on one page. 6-session packages are 10% off.

A few simple rules make every session count.
Before
- No waxing, plucking or threading for 4 weeks. The laser needs the root in place.
- Recently tanned? Book 2 to 3 weeks after your sun exposure.
- Shave the night before with a razor. We will help with any spots you miss.
- Come with clean skin. No lotion, cream or heavy makeup on the area.
During
- Protective glasses go on before the laser does.
- Settings matched to your skin type and the area we are treating.
- A cold burst with each pulse. Most people describe a quick elastic snap.
- Quick. The handpiece glides instead of stamping spot by spot.
After
- Some redness or swelling is normal and temporary.
- Protect the area from sun for about 6 weeks, and no tanning between sessions.
- Shave if you need to. Still no waxing or plucking.
- Hairs shed over days to weeks. That is the treatment working.

Questions Richmond Hill clients ask us
Is laser hair removal permanent?
Some hair is removed for good, but some can grow back over time. Results last for months and often years, and an occasional touch-up session may be needed to keep skin smooth.
Does laser hair removal hurt?
You will feel heat and a quick snap, often compared to an elastic band. Clarity II sprays a cold burst with every pulse, and most people get through without real discomfort. Sensitive areas such as the upper lip and bikini line feel sharper.
How many laser hair removal sessions will I need?
Most people need 6 to 8 sessions, spaced several weeks apart. Darker skin and hormonal areas like the chin usually take longer. We set your exact schedule at your first visit, based on the area.
Does laser hair removal work on dark skin?
Yes. Clarity II has a 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength made for darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV to VI). Treatment is gentler, so it may take a few more sessions, but the results can be just as good.
Does laser work on grey, blonde or red hair?
Grey and white hair have too little pigment for the laser to target. Blonde hair responds weakly, and red hair carries a type of pigment that does not absorb enough laser energy, so results vary. If your hair is starting to grey, it is better to start sooner.
What is the best time of year to start?
Fall and winter, when your skin sees less sun. We can still treat safely in summer with adjusted settings, but you will need to avoid tanning between sessions.
Can I shave between laser sessions?
Yes, shaving is fine and you should shave the night before each visit. Avoid waxing, plucking and threading, because the laser needs the hair root in place.
Can I get laser hair removal while pregnant?
We do not recommend it. There is not enough safety data for pregnancy, and hormone changes can also affect how your hair responds. Plan to start or continue after.
How much does laser hair removal cost in Richmond Hill?
Single areas start at $30 and full body for women is $230 per session. Every area for women and men is on our pricing page, and 6-session packages are 10% off.
Did prices go up with the new Clarity II laser?
No. We upgraded to Clarity II and kept the same prices as our previous laser, so you get a newer dual-wavelength device at the best price in the GTA.
